Department of English

Dept of English was established in 2008. It offers M.A, in English. Since 2014 the department has also been offering PhD program. 18 scholars have registered for the Doctoral programme. It strives with the vision “To provide education which sensitizes literature, languages, culture and social needs of the region, nation and the globe”.The department offers courses in various areas of specialization like Critical theory, Post colonialism, Feminism, Translation Studies, Indian Writing in English, Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Dalit Literature, Theatre , British literature and World Literature.Over the years, the department has organized several national seminars and workshops on various themes. Special lectures are arranged to add value to the courses. Eminent literary figures – Prof Shivaram Padikkal, Prof C.P. Ravichandra, Prof Mahadeva, Prof K.B. Siddayya,Prof T Nageshwar Rao, Prof Tarakeswar and Prof Banjagere Jayaprakash – have visited the department.
The faculty of the department have participated and have made presentations in a number of international, national and state level seminars and workshops. They have been invited to deliberate in numerous seminars, conferences, workshops, orientation programs and special lectures. They have chaired and have been members of prestigious boards across the state and beyond.
The classrooms are spacious with good ventilation, also ICT equipped. Availability of Digital Language Lab helps students to improve the proficiency in English.
The classes are engaged between 10.00 am and 5.30 pm. Between these hours, the students are engaged in regular and tutorial classes. Besides, the students are given opportunity to teach English to students in the local area.
